Living with host family and friends / Mei Higashine
1 month has passed since I came to Georgia. There are lots of difficult things, but I`m spending a fulfilling life everyday.
Let me talk about living with host family. I live with my host parents, host sister, two dogs and two cats. I have never kept dogs or cats, so it`s nice to live with them. It`s a way to be stress-free. Host sister is doing gymnastics and host mother does yoga and my host family is an active family. So, I also did a variety of things with my family. Since there is a swimming pool at my host family home, I swim, and I cycled to the park on holidays, I did yoga with my host mother, too.
I was impressed by the pool in the house as I like swimming the best in sports. I also had a big sweat after I tried hot Yoga. I went outside besides exercise. I went to host sister’s cousin's house in South Carolina and to host sister grandparents' house in Florida. I swam in the pool with the host sister cousins, playing with hide-and-seeking at home. I swam to the sea with my grandparents. In the grandparents' garden I saw apples, pineapple, banana etc. for the first time in a planted estate. In addition, I had valuable experiences such as playing games at church and helping with activities with children.
Next is about school life. It is very hard. I was keenly aware of my low English ability. I didn`t know what the teacher was saying in the class, and the first day of school was crushed by uneasiness. I`m junior (11th Grade) and taking Team Sports, Basic Agriculture Science, Algebra, Rec Games, US History, American literature, Chemistry. I`m struggling with physical education and subjects other than mathematics. Agriculture and US history are my first subjects that I was confused the most. I try to ask what I do not understand in class and listen to the teacher or classmates. Everyone is kind and I`m always helped. I`m being told by the host mother when I don`t understand homework to always ask for help. It`s full of appreciation because they teach me carefully so that I can understand. Now, one month has passed, I got used to the class and gradually able to understand. But I am still not satisfied, so I will do my best.
Studying is important but there also are fun things. It's my time with friends. I got some bright and interesting friends. I am very grateful to see them everyday. My friends saying me as my best friend was very happy moment. At lunch time, I talk about various things when eating with my friends. Sometimes I eat breakfast at school together with my friends.
There is home coming in September, this month. I`m excited to experience this event with my friends.
